8 Cancer-Fighting Foods

Did you know your kitchen could be housing an abundant supply of cancer-fighting foods? Whatever you do, make sure that you include these foods in your diet.

Do you ever wonder what secrets the contents in your kitchen cupboard or fridge are holding? You could well be sitting with the cure of the next high-risk disease. Ok, let’s not go that far, but foods like garlic, turmeric, tomatoes and berries have properties that can keep various kinds of cancers away. Next time you go grocery shopping, make sure you add these foods in your cart.

1. Whole grains

 

Whole grains contain many components that might lower your risk of cancer, including fibre and antioxidants. A study found that eating more whole grains might lower the risk of colorectal cancer, making them a top item in the category of foods to fight cancer.

2. Green tea 

Not only does green tea speed up your metabolism, research has shown it’s a good cancer fighter. The green tea leaves contain bioactive compounds, including green tea antioxidants, which act on our body in multiple beneficial ways.

3. Carrots

They contain carotenoids like beta-carotene that are known to have essential vitamins, which help in fighting cancer.

4. Grapefruit

Other than fighting diabetes, grapefruits are a great source of food to fight cancer. The flavonoids in the fruit help with preventing colon cancer by suppressing the production of cancer cells.

5. Grapes 

Grapes contain a chemical called proanthocyanidins that is capable of fighting colon, prostate and breast cancer.

6. Mushrooms

If you weren’t a fan of mushrooms before, maybe by the end of this article we would’ve converted you. They are a great source of vitamin B and iron; they also fight diabetes, prevent tumours and boost your immunity.

7. Garlic 

Studies have shown that those who eat more garlic are less likely to develop various kinds of cancer, especially in digestive organs such as the oesophagus, stomach and colon. It’s not known how much you need to eat every day, but a clove a day may be helpful.

8. Cabbages

Cruciferous vegetables, the group containing broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower, may be helpful in protecting you from cancer. According to research, components in these vegetables can protect you from the free radicals that can damage your cells’ DNA. They may also shield you from cancer-causing chemicals, help slow the growth of tumours and encourage cancer cells to die.
