Becoming a parent is like riding a bicycle; you can watch other people do it and they can tell you how to do it, but until you actually do it you just won’t know it how it feels. You can read books, speak to people, and even babysit your nieces and nephews, and still you will not know how it actually feels to be a parent to an actual human being with an actual temperament and will of their own.
