Pregnancy Calendar - Week 22
Your baby's hands are now bigger and stronger and have developed nerve endings. Baby will be practicing touch by touching his face and the umbilical cord. Your baby's taste buds have started developing, and he may even detect strong tastes in the amniotic fluid. Baby also has a favourite position in which he has settled in the womb. He now weighs around 450 grams and is 28cm from head to heal.
Although you're hungry, and it's tempting to over-eat, remember that you still only need an extra 300 calories a day. It may be easier now that your stomach has less space to expand, to eat six smaller meals a day rather than three substantial meals. The placenta is now at its largest in relation to the baby, covering one half of the uterine lining. There is also 400ml of fluid in the amniotic sac.
