Five Ways To Beat Body Odour During Pregnancy

Body odour is a common problem for many pregnant women and that alone can put a dent in your confidence. To prevent you from spending more time being self-conscious than on enjoying your pregnancy, we’ve come up with ways to get rid of bad body odour.

Why are your suffering from bad body odour?

1. Changes in body odour

After conceiving, the hormonal levels in your body change drastically and your body produces large quantities of a hormone called oestradiol. This is the main reason for the strong odour that is coming from your body.

2. Sensitivity to smell

Everything can be just a bit over exaggerated when you fall pregnancy – and your sense of smell is one of them. Fragrances and odours that never bothered you before can suddenly seem much stronger or more pungent.

3. Increased sweating

It’s very normal for woman to sweat more during pregnancy, which can affect the armpits and genitals.

4. Beating the body odour

If you want to take tackle body odour head-on, you will have to introduce changes to your routine. Things like medication, changes in diet and body temperature must be considered, but with proper personal care and hygiene, you can fight body odour effectively.

5. Be friends with the shower

Shower at least twice a day and switch to antibacterial soap, which helps kill bacteria that causes bad odour in your body. Use a clean towel after each shower and don’t forget to wear antiperspirant to keep you feeling fresh. Also use this time to speak to your doctor about baby-safe deodorants, soaps and powders.

6. Keep them trimmed

Keep your underarms, bikini line and pubic hair trimmed to prevent bacteria from accumulating on the skin and giving rise to bad BO.

7. Stock up on deodorants

Use an underarm antiperspirant and/or sprinkle some talcum powder on your armpits and private parts. Don’t leave the house without using one of the two, and make sure that you carry them with you wherever you go.

8. Wear breathable fabrics

Shop for fabrics that are breathable, like linen and cotton, and avoid wearing the same clothes for two consecutive days. If your socks and underwear smell really bad, try soaking them in a dilute solution of white vinegar for 15 minutes before you wash them.

9. Drink plenty of fluids

Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids to keep your system clean and avoid eating onions and garlic. Rather go for fruits and vegetables because, not only do they reduce body odour, but they are also healthy for your growing baby.
